This Thursday Just Security along with NYU Law School’s Center for Human Rights and Global Justice will host an event entitled, Debating “The Snowden Operation”: A Victory for Privacy Rights or for Russia? The debate will be between Edward Lucas, Senior Editor of The Economist and author of “The Snowden Operation: Inside the West’s Greatest Intelligence Disaster,” and Professor Stephen Holmes.
In his new and controversial book, Edward Lucas, after reflecting on how he exposed official state secrets in his many years of journalism, nevertheless has harsh criticisms of Edward Snowden and the journalists who have published Snowden’s revelations. Lucas also explores possible connections between Russia and Snowden’s acts. Professor Stephen Holmes — whose expertise includes national security law, democratic theory and Russia — will engage Lucas in a spirited debate on the human rights to privacy and a free press and other issues. The debate will be moderated by Ryan Goodman.
