Steven Feldstein is the Frank and Bethine Church Chair of Public Affairs at Boise State University. He is also a nonresident fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s Democracy and Rule of Law Program. From 2014 to 2017, he served as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.and the director of the office of policy at the U.S. Agency for International Development. He has also served as counsel on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. His research interests include technology and repression, U.S. foreign policy, international security, democracy, human rights, and Africa policy.
