Letter to the Editor: Elliott Abrams Responds to Sarah Knuckey’s Post on UN Casualty Estimates in Gaza

Prof. Knuckey makes some good points about casualty estimates. Knuckey and I would agree that data is hard to come by in the middle of a war and often even after it is over. For an important UN agency to claim now that it knows with precision what percentage of casualties are civilian is outrageous. Such a statement reflects the continuing bias against Israel within the UN system.

Elliott Abrams is senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. He served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Adviser in the administration of President George W. Bush, and Assistant Secretary of State in the Reagan administration.
