Jack Thorlin

Jack Thorlin (LinkedIn – Bluesky – Substack) is an assistant professor at the University of Arkansas School of Law and a research affiliate at the Institute for Law & AI. He teaches constitutional law and national security law. His scholarship focuses on presidential war powers, national security issues relating to artificial intelligence, and the First Amendment’s religion clauses. Before joining the Arkansas faculty, Professor Thorlin was an attorney for the CIA’s Office of General Counsel. Prior to that, he worked for nearly a decade in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. During that time, he served as chief counsel for the Senate Republican Policy Committee, a senior counsel on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations under Senators Rob Portman and John McCain, and a senior counsel on the House Oversight Committee. He also served as an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center from 2017 to 2023. He received his undergraduate degree in engineering sciences from Harvard University and his JD from Harvard Law School.
