Dr. Jacob Stoil (LinkedInX) is Research Professor of Middle East Security at the U.S. Army Strategic Studies Institute and Chair of Applied History at the West Point Modern War Institute (MWI). He serves as Trustee of the U.S. Commission on Military History and Assistant Director of the Second World War Research Group (North America). Previously, he was a Senior Fellow of the 40th Infantry Urban Warfare Center. Dr. Stoil co-founded the International Working Group on Subterranean Warfare and the Second World War Research Group. He holds a doctorate from Oxford University and an MA in History of Warfare from King’s College London.

In his role at SSI, Dr. Stoil advises and supports multiple commands and staffs engaged with the Middle East. He was awarded the Department of the Army Civilian Meritorious Service Medal for his work in support of the 40th ID Task Force SPARTAN rotation in the Middle East which coincided with the OCT 7th attacks. Dr. Stoil published award winning academic journal articles in venues such as the International Journal of Military History, the British Journal of Military History, and Revue d’histoire and has several chapters published in edited volumes. He has been interviewed by and published with a wide variety of publication including the Washington PostTimes of IsraelNewsweek, and War on the Rocks among others. Dr. Stoil has given lectures on the Middle East and military history in universities across three continents including University of Haifa, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Georgetown, and Oxford.
