Thomas Probert

Dr. Thomas Probert (@tjwprobert) works as a research consultant to the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, and is based in the Office of the High Commission for Human Rights in Geneva. He is also the Senior Researcher of the Unlawful Killings Unit at the Centre for Human Rights (University of Pretoria) and a Research Associate at the Centre of Governance and Human Rights (University of Cambridge). He wrote his PhD on the politics of human rights at the University of Cambridge, where he had already obtained an MA and MPhil in the History Faculty. His research interests focus on the interactions between international and national politics of human rights and their implications for ideas of normativity and accountability, but he has worked on issues ranging from the death penalty to the use of information communication technologies and statistics to secure human rights.
