Sorcha MacLeod

Dr Sorcha MacLeod (LinkedIn – Bluesky) is a tenured Associate Professor in Human Rights with Special Focus on Regulation of Private Actors at the University of Copenhagen Faculty of Law. She is Principal Investigator of the ERC MERCURY project Mercenarism and the Accountability Void: Finding routes to accountability and remedy for the victims of human rights abuses perpetrated by mercenaries funded by a 5-year European Research Council Consolidator Grant (Grant no. 101126248). Between 2018-24 she served as a member, and Chair, of the UN Human Rights Council’s Working Group on the use of mercenaries as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination. She is Chair of the Global Coalition to Fight Financial Crime’s Working Group on Atrocity Crimes and Money Laundering, and since 2024 she has been a Visiting Fellow at DCAF – Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance.
