Elise Keppler (LinkedInX) is executive director of Global Justice Center, a feminist human rights organization that uses international law to advance gender equality. She leads legal and policy advocacy to promote reproductive autonomy as a human right and justice for mass atrocities involving sexual and gender-based crimes. Prior to joining GJC, Elise worked for two decades in Human Rights Watch’s International Justice Program, where she focused on strengthening prospects for justice for atrocity crimes committed across Africa. Elise also worked half-time in Human Rights Watch’s General Counsel’s Office between 2020 and 2024. Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, Elise was a litigation associate at Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP.

Elise holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. From January to April 2012, Elise was a visiting scholar with the Democratic Governance and Rights Unit at the University of Cape Town’s Faculty of Law, and since 2023, she has taught a yearly short course on international justice at Sciences Po-Lille.
