Rosemary Kayess is an internationally recognized human rights lawyer in the area of disability. She has served as Chair of the U.N. Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Chairperson of the U.N. Treaty Body Chairpersons. She is a Senior Academic in the Faculty of Law at the University of New South Wales, where she has taught international human rights law and anti-discrimination law for the past 15 years. She has provided legal counsel and researched on numerous projects on human rights, disability, and the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in Australia, the Indo-Pacific, and Europe. She was a designated expert on the Australian Government delegation during the negotiations for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and facilitated the drafting of Article 24 on the Right to Education. She is a woman with a disability.
