Janet Lord

Janet E. Lord is an international public lawyer by training and currently serves as Executive Director of the University of Baltimore School of Law’s Center for International and Comparative Law. She is also senior research fellow at the Harvard Law School Project on Disability where she leads research and engagement on the disability, peace and security agenda. She was formerly senior legal advisor for the U.N. Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities. She regularly provides independent counsel on international and comparative disability law and inclusive development projects for the World Bank, U.N. agencies, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the US Department of State and numerous non-governmental organizations. Earlier in her career she served as legal counsel to non-governmental organizations, the United Nations and like-minded governments throughout the negotiation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. She holds degrees from Kenyon College, the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) and George Washington University School of Law. In 2022, she was awarded an honorary doctorate for her pathbreaking work on international disability rights. She is also on LinkedIn.
