Chiara Gabriele (@Chiara_Gab) is a Legal Advisor for the Great Lakes program at TRIAL International, a Geneva-based NGO fighting impunity for international crimes. Ms. Gabriele frequently travels to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) where she works with local lawyers to bring mass crimes cases to trial. A recent success was the Kokodikoko judgement, in which over 300 victims of crimes against humanity obtained justice. Chiara has a specific expertise on audiovisual evidence in criminal trials: in 2018 she was involved in the Kamananga case, in which a groundbreaking sentence recognized the value of photo and video evidence in proving international crimes. She is the Editor of TRIAL International’s Manual on audiovisual evidence in international criminal proceedings. Ms. Gabriele holds an LLM from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. Her working languages are Italian, English and French.
