Ruth Effinowicz is currently working toward her PhD on Japanese Defense and Security Law at the Institute for International Peace and Security Law at the University of Cologne, Germany, where she also was a research fellow for several years before taking up a position at the Institute of Public International Law at the University of Bonn. She received her legal education at the Universities of Cologne and Paris I and she also holds an M.A. in Japanese Studies from the University of Cologne.
