Erik Dahl (@ErikJDahl1) is associate professor of national security affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, and the author of Intelligence and Surprise Attack: Failure and Success from Pearl Harbor to 9/11 and Beyond (Georgetown University Press, 2013). His latest book is The COVID-19 Intelligence Failure: Why Warning Was Not Enough (forthcoming with Georgetown University Press). He is also a former chair of the Intelligence Studies Section of the International Studies Association, and prior to his academic career he served 21 years as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy.
