William J. Aceves

William J. Aceves is the Dean Steven R. Smith Professor of Law at California Western School of Law and Co-Chair of International Law Weekend 2025.

His teaching areas include Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, International Law, and Human Rights. He previously served as the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs from 2007-2014. Aceves works on projects involving the domestic application of international law and has written extensively in this field. He has represented several organizations and legal scholars as amicus curiae counsel in cases before the federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He has appeared before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Migrants, and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Aceves currently serves on the National Boards of the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Justice & Accountability. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the American Branch of the International Law Association. Aceves serves as the AIUSA Ombudsperson. He is also a member of the American Law Institute.
