Isel van Zyl (@IselZyl) serves as the Africa Programme Lead at the Strong Cities Network. She previously worked as a research officer in the Complex Threats in Africa Programme (CTAP) at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in Pretoria, South Africa. Her interests are concentrated on the different ways in which conflict manifests on the African continent, as well as the preventative measures taken by African states. Her research focus has been on the prevention and countering of violent extremism (P/CVE) and other related interventions, border security management, rehabilitation and reintegration (formerly known as DDR) and climate change mitigation.  She holds a BA (Hons) in Interpreting and Translation from the University of Witwatersrand and a MA in Advance European and International Affairs from the Centre International de Formation Européene (Nice).
