Skylar Thompson
Skylar Thompson (X – LinkedIn) is the Deputy Director of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA), where she leads the organization’s international justice and accountability work addressing serious violations of human rights and international law in the Islamic Republic of Iran, including efforts to map alleged perpetrators, command structures, and institutional responsibility. Her work focuses on advancing community-led documentation toward meaningful avenues for justice and accountability, connecting evidence and the priorities of affected communities with opportunities for action across legal and policy frameworks.
Her work sits at the intersection of human rights documentation, international law, and accountability strategy, with a particular focus on developing coordinated, cross-jurisdictional approaches to justice grounded in the experiences and priorities of affected communities. She also works to preserve and strengthen the historical record of violations in Iran, ensuring that documentation can serve both present accountability efforts and future avenues for justice.
Skylar has authored numerous publications and is a frequent contributor to print and broadcast media, providing expert analysis on Iran and the wider region, as well as on the pathways and barriers to meaningful accountability. Previously, she worked on U.S. criminal justice reform and the humanitarian response in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
