Sherif Osman (@SherifFree) is a human rights activist with a focus on Egypt and transnational repression. Sherif deserted from the Egyptian military in 2005 after becoming a whistleblower on the military regime. He used social media to reach out to the Egyptian people during the Arab Spring. A few weeks later, in November 2022, Sherif was detained in Dubai for 46 days and was released after an extensive advocacy campaign by his family and friends.
