Susan Markham (@msmarkham) is a partner at Smash Strategies, a strategic advisory firm helping businesses, non-profit organizations and philanthropists who want to leverage their commitment to empowering women and girls. She most recently served at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as the Senior Coordinator for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. In this position, she advised Agency leadership on gender policy issues, including the implementation of the USAID Gender Equality and Female Empowerment Policy and coordinated USAID efforts with the office of First Lady Michelle Obama on the Let Girls Learn initiative. Previously, she worked at the National Democratic Institute, EMILY’s List, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), Participation 2000, and managed and raised funds for five federal and state political campaigns.
