John MacBride

Lt-Col. John MacBride (ret.) is a consultant to Mines Action Canada, a co-founder of the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots.

Before retiring in 2013, MacBride was senior defense advisor to the non-proliferation and disarmament division of Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs. He served in the Canadian Army from 1969 to 2002.

MacBride participated on Canada’s delegation to key meetings of the Oslo Process, serving as alternate head of delegation to the Dublin negotiations of the Convention on Cluster Munitions, adopted on May 30, 2008. On behalf of Canada, MacBride also contributed to efforts to universalize and encourage implementation of the convention and other instruments, particularly the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty and 1980 Convention on Conventional Weapons.
