Morten Stinus Kristensen

Morten Stinus Kristensen is a PhD student at the Institute of Communications Research at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His research interests emerge out of the Cultural Studies tradition of examining how media attaches meaning to various minority groups and the material effects of those media practices. At the center of his interests are the various and oft-ambivalent ways in which Danish media participates in the racialization of Danish Muslims. His dissertation research revolves around how Danish media, at a time of intense anti-immigration sentiment and increasing Islamophobia, represent immigration and Danish Muslims and how Danish Muslims utilize the affordances of new social media to supplement, challenge, and resist these representations.
