Durward Johnson

Durward E. Johnson is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and judge advocate. He was Associate Director for the Law of Land Warfare and Professor of International Law at the Stockton Center for International Law, U.S. Naval War College. He also served as Managing Editor of International Law Studies. Later, he worked as Chief of Military Justice at III Corps and Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at V Corps. A combat veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq, he now leads Unify Theory LLC, where he advises legal, defense, and compliance teams on AI systems. He has written about command and control of lethal autonomous weapon systems, cyber operations, and the law of armed conflict.
