Just Security Is Hiring: Editorial Assistant – Democracy and Rule of Law
Just Security is hiring a full-time Editorial Assistant to support our democracy and rule of law-related projects in addition to our broader mission. The Editorial Assistant will join Just Security’s small and highly collegial team and play a substantive role in supporting our mission of bringing rigorous, accessible analysis and informational resources to policymakers, legal professionals, journalists, and the public.
Since its founding in 2013, Just Security has served as a vital resource on the most important challenges at the intersection of national security, human rights, civil liberties, democracy, and foreign affairs. We are continuing to expand and develop resources and analysis in a number of areas, including democracy and the rule of law, to meet the current moment. Examples include Just Security’s widely cited Litigation Tracker on Legal Challenges to Trump Administration Executive Actions, a co-authored Anti-Corruption Tracker that is updated regularly, and other resources that shape national and international conversations.
The Editorial Assistant will spend approximately two-thirds of their time on democracy-related projects, with the remainder of the time supporting Just Security’s work across all subject areas. This is a unique opportunity to work at the center of national debates on accountability, governance, and the rule of law.
Primary Duties:
The Editorial Assistant will work with Just Security’s editors and fellows to:
- Support the production of Just Security’s Litigation Tracker and related daily and weekly editorial products.
- Assist the authors of the Anti-Corruption tracker in researching and drafting regular updates.
- Contribute to daily publishing activities, including preparing social media posts, supporting the morning publishing team, assisting with website uploads, and the production and dissemination of newsletters.
- Assist in developing new editorial projects at the intersection of democracy, rule of law, and good governance.
- Support development and partnership efforts, including drafting materials, tracking outreach, and coordinating convenings with partners.
- Help manage internal editorial workflows across Just Security’s content and work collaboratively with senior editors and staff on project-based and event-based initiatives.
- Contribute to other projects as they arise.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree required; advanced study or equivalent experience a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, demonstrated through professional and/or academic work.
- Excellent research, writing, editing, and communication skills, with an eye for clarity and accessibility.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced editorial environment and balance multiple priorities on a small, collegial team.
- Interest in democracy, good governance, or rule of law issues.
- Familiarity with digital tools (WordPress, MailChimp, GSuite) is a plus; eagerness to learn is essential.
The Editorial Assistant will gain direct experience working with leading scholars, journalists, and policymakers, and will help bring Just Security’s work to wider audiences.
