Brian Netter
Brian Netter (LinkedIn) is a Legal Director at Democracy Forward.
He joined Democracy Forward after serving as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. In that role, he oversaw the Federal Programs Branch, which represents nearly the entire Executive Branch in civil litigation in federal district courts, in cases presenting significant issues of constitutional, statutory, and regulatory law. Brian personally handled particularly sensitive matters, advancing the Administration’s positions on reproductive rights, student loan relief, the response to the pandemic, executive privilege, and Medicare drug-price negotiations.
Prior to his government service, Brian was a partner at Mayer Brown LLP, splitting his time between the firm’s Supreme Court and appellate litigation and ERISA litigation practices. Brian’s clients included major universities, corporations, individuals, and government bodies. Brian received his B.S.E. and M.S.E. in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan, his J.D. from Yale Law School, and subsequently served as a law clerk to Judge Judith W. Rogers (D.C. Cir.) and Justice Stephen G. Breyer.
