Prof Laurie Nathan is Director of the Mediation Program of the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the Keough School of Global Affairs, University of Notre Dame. He was a member of the African National Congress’ negotiation team in South Africa’s transition to democracy, serving on the Transitional Subcouncil on Defence. He was also a member of the African Union mediation team for Darfur in 2005-6, facilitating negotiations on ceasefire and security arrangements.
