Kelsey Merrick is the Director of Litigation for the Tax Law Center at NYU Law.  Before joining the Tax Law Center, Kelsey was a senior housing attorney at Open Door Legal in San Francisco, where she represented tenants in a variety of litigation matters. Prior to her work in legal aid, Kelsey was a tax associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

Kelsey holds a JD from Stanford Law School and a BA in economics and government and politics from the University of Maryland, College Park. During law school, Kelsey served as an editor of the Stanford Law Review and the Stanford Law & Policy Review. She also led the Tax Pro Bono Project to provide free tax preparation through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and practiced under attorney supervision with the Community Law Clinic to represent low-income clients in eviction defense, criminal expungement, and Social Security Disability appeals.

Prior to law school, Kelsey was a tax policy advisor at the National Economic Council and a research associate at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, where she focused on federal budget and tax policies.
