Maria Victoria “Mavic” Cabrera-Balleza (LinkedIn) is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP) and a leading global advocate on Women, Peace and Security (WPS). She is one of two civil society initiators of the UN Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund. Mavic pioneered the localization of UN Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 1820, now implemented in over 40 countries, and has provided technical support to national WPS action plans in contexts including the Philippines, Nepal, Guatemala, Japan, South Sudan, Georgia, Jordan, and Lebanon. She also leads civil society advocacy on the use of CEDAW General Recommendation 30 as a complementary accountability mechanism to the WPS agenda. She holds a master’s degree from the University of the Philippines.
